According to reports from The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, Israel allegedly established two covert military outposts in Iraq’s western desert before the recent escalation involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Iraqi officials reportedly identified the secret locations, while regional sources claimed preparations for at least one of the sites began in late 2024.

The reports suggest that one of the outposts was operating with the knowledge of the United States and functioned as a logistical center for Israeli air operations. The base allegedly housed Israeli special forces and included rescue capabilities for pilots in emergency situations.

Satellite imagery reviewed by open-source analysts reportedly pointed to a location near Iraq’s border with Saudi Arabia. According to the claims, Israeli forces also launched attacks against Iraqi units that approached the site earlier this year.

Iraqi authorities, however, continue to deny authorising any foreign military presence in the region. Lieutenant-General Qais al-Muhammadawi stated that there was “no agreement or consent” for foreign forces to operate there. Despite the public denials, reports indicate Baghdad privately protested to Washington over suspected covert activity, calling it a violation of Iraqi sovereignty.

The allegations have intensified tensions across the region as Iraq faces increasing pressure amid the ongoing confrontation between the US, Israel, and Iran. Washington has repeatedly urged Iraq to limit the influence of Iran-backed armed groups, while Iran has accused Israel of attempting to destabilise the Middle East further.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei condemned the alleged operations, saying Israel “does not respect any limits or red lines” in the region. Iraqi security officials later downplayed the claims, with some denying that any permanent Israeli military base existed in the desert areas.

Neymar Furious After Substitution Mix-Up During Santos Match

Brazilian star Neymar became the center of attention during Santos’s Serie A clash against Coritiba after a controversial substitution error led to an angry confrontation with match officials.

The confusion began in the 65th minute when the fourth official displayed Neymar’s number 10 on the substitution board. The forward believed teammate Gonzalo Escobar was supposed to leave the pitch instead. Frustrated by the apparent mistake, Neymar argued with officials, grabbed the substitution slip, and showed it to television cameras to highlight the error.

Despite his protests, Neymar was forced off the field and later received a yellow card for dissent. Santos eventually lost the match 3-0, leaving the club dangerously close to the relegation zone.

The club later admitted the substitution was made incorrectly, calling it an “inexplicable error” that should have been corrected by the officials.

Will Neymar Play in the FIFA World Cup 2026?

The controversy comes as Neymar continues his battle to return to Brazil’s national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The 34-year-old has not represented Brazil since October 2023 due to injury setbacks but has been working hard to regain full fitness.

Since returning to Santos following knee surgery, Neymar has scored six goals in 15 appearances. However, recurring muscle injuries have raised doubts about whether he can handle the physical demands of international football.

Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti has repeatedly stated that squad selection will depend entirely on performance and fitness. While acknowledging Neymar’s importance and popularity, Ancelotti stressed that the final decision would be made on professional merit alone.

Neymar recently responded to critics by saying he had endured “years of hard work” and unfair criticism regarding his condition. He insisted he now feels physically strong and believes he has done enough to earn a place in Brazil’s World Cup squad.

Brazil’s preliminary squad announcement is expected soon, with the final 26-player squad to be confirmed before the tournament begins in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Cavaliers Crush Pistons to Reach Eastern Conference Finals

The Cleveland Cavaliers delivered a dominant performance in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, defeating the Detroit Pistons 125-94 to secure a place in the NBA Eastern Conference finals.

Star guard Donovan Mitchell led all scorers with 26 points, while Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley controlled the paint throughout the game. The Cavaliers overwhelmed Detroit early and never allowed the Pistons to recover.

The victory sends Cleveland to the Eastern finals for the first time since 2018, where they will face the New York Knicks in a best-of-seven series beginning Tuesday at Madison Square Garden.

Detroit struggled offensively, with Cade Cunningham missing all seven of his three-point attempts. Pistons coach JB Bickerstaff admitted Cleveland outplayed his team but said the experience would help Detroit grow stronger in the future.

Indian Court Declares Medieval Mosque a Hindu Temple

A court ruling in India has reignited controversy over religious sites after the Madhya Pradesh High Court declared the historic Kamal Maula mosque in Dhar to be a Hindu temple site.

The centuries-old structure, part of the Bhojshala complex, has long been disputed between Hindu and Muslim communities. The court ruled that the site is dedicated to the Hindu goddess Vagdevi, allowing Hindu worship at the location while dismissing Muslim claims over the mosque.

Following the ruling, Hindu groups gathered at the site carrying saffron flags and installed a temporary idol of the goddess under heavy police security.

Muslim residents expressed shock and disappointment over the decision. Many said the mosque had served as a place of worship for generations. Community leaders plan to challenge the ruling in India’s Supreme Court.

Historians and critics have raised concerns about the increasing number of claims targeting mosques across India. Some scholars argue the disputes reflect growing religious tensions linked to Hindu nationalist politics.

In sports, the Cleveland Cavaliers have emerged as serious NBA title contenders after a commanding playoff performance, and in India, the court ruling over the Bhojshala mosque-temple dispute has once again exposed deep religious divisions.
