Provincial Authorities Review Flood, Wildfire and Heatwave Response Plans

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has intensified preparations for the upcoming monsoon season, focusing on emergency response measures for floods, wildfires and heatwaves across the province.

A high-level meeting chaired by Shakeel Qadir Khan reviewed the province’s disaster preparedness strategy and assessed the readiness of departments and district administrations to handle weather-related emergencies.

During the meeting, the chief secretary instructed all concerned departments to accelerate precautionary measures to ensure a swift and effective response to heavy rainfall, urban flooding and other potential disasters during the monsoon period.

He emphasized the importance of timely planning, administrative coordination and preventive action in vulnerable areas to minimize damage and protect communities from seasonal hazards. Officials were also directed to strengthen cooperation between provincial and district administrations to improve emergency response capacity.

    Authorities Urged to Stay Alert

The chief secretary directed commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province to remain fully alert in view of changing weather conditions. He stressed that advance planning and rapid implementation of safety measures were essential to avoid loss of life and property.

Public awareness was also highlighted as a key part of the preparedness strategy. Citizens were advised to follow official weather advisories and adopt safety precautions during extreme weather events.

    Special Focus on Wildfire Prevention

The meeting also addressed the growing risk of forest fires in districts such as Sherani, Musakhail and Zhob, where major wildfires have occurred in recent years.

Officials were instructed to enhance wildfire prevention measures, including the digging of firebreak trenches and improving safety arrangements in forested regions to stop the spread of fires during hot and dry conditions.

    Heatwave Response Plan Activated

Alongside monsoon preparedness, the provincial administration also ordered the activation of the heatwave response plan to tackle rising temperatures in several regions of Balochistan.

The chief secretary identified the Rakshan, Makran and Nasirabad belts as areas facing comparatively higher temperatures.

Hospitals and healthcare facilities in vulnerable districts were instructed to remain fully equipped with medicines, emergency supplies and medical staff to respond effectively during heatwave conditions.

Officials also stressed the need to expand public awareness campaigns to educate residents on heat safety and emergency precautions.

    Disaster Management Briefing Presented

The meeting received a detailed briefing from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), outlining preparedness measures for multiple seasonal threats, including heavy rains, flash floods, urban flooding, wildfires and extreme heat.

The review focused on strengthening coordination among departments before the onset of the monsoon season and improving overall emergency response mechanisms across the province.

Authorities said the government’s primary objective is to reduce the impact of seasonal disasters through early planning, preventive safeguards and continuous public awareness efforts.
